Cheer up with a tan
Are you wallowing in your wellies? FB and Twitter is awash (sorry) with rain ranting. Same here in Sydney so I sympathise – naturally we’ve arrived to the wettest summer/autumn since records began or whatever.
Here’s what gets me through the rainy days when I don’t want to look as washed out as the weather, and the heat (remember this for when the weather warms up). OH and of course they’re all fast to use – goes without saying.
• Self tan he-shi Express Liquid Tan (£20 for 150ml). I am and always have been a year round self-tan user and have tried MANY. This one is fantastic – dries ultra fast with more than a hint of colour for instant dressing. The he-shi Mitt is a must (£4.50) as this is a liquid – pour a little onto the mitt and stroke it evenly on your limbs. I’ve almost run out and can’t bear to Google Aus stockists in case I can’t get it here.
• Stay put mascara Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Curling Mascara, £19.50. I adore this mascara – no need for lash curlers which I used to use religiously, seriously does NOT smudge and it’s easy to wash off (one of my criteria in a mascara since becoming a mum with no time for eye makeup remover or that mess you get into with mascaras that don’t like face cleansing balm or cream.
• Flush of blush Mac Sheertone Blush in Peaches, £17.50, is a peachy coral colour – a fresh alternative to bronzer (as many a pro makeup artist has told me) and gives a healthy buzz to my cheeks. It’s sheer and lasts all day, and I like powder blusher if I’ve got a heat-induced shine on already…
• Dark circle disguiser Clinique Airbrush Concealer, £16 is super lightweight (so it suits warm-weather makeup) and super fast to apply (make sure you get it on the inner corners of your eyes which are surprisingly dark). Watch out for new Clinique Even Better Concealer launching May 1st if you’ve got pigmentation dark spots under your eyes.

Win £21 worth of skincare!
Be one of 10 lucky Mums to win our latest Mother’s Day & Goldilocksbeauty.com birthday (we’re 2!) giveaway and treat your skin to radiance boosting and super moisturising skincare from one of my favourite beauty brands, balance Me. Enter by midnight Sunday March 18 2012 to win a 10ml bottle of balance Me’s Extra Care Radiance Face Oil, worth £15 (a bottle should last you 6 weeks – potent stuff) and as a bonus you’ll also get a small tube of their Moisture-Rich Face Cream (10ml, worth £6).
If you’ve never tried facial oil (I am addicted), I urge you to enter to win some! Facial oil is the facialist’s secret weapon – and that of women who look annoyingly younger than their years. Use Extra Care Radiance Face Oil under your night cream for noticeably softer, supple and springy skin come morning. The gorgeous chamomile oil aroma is a great relaxer at night too. Follow up with Moisture-Rich Face Cream to give your face a daily dose of nourishment and a healthy sheen.

Win this too!
No doubt you’ve seen multi-award winning balance Me in Waitrose or John Lewis. This no-nasties, aromatherapy and natural-ingredient based range not only looks gorgeous, but is also a delight to use and gets results. Check out their beautiful body products too at www.balanceme.co.uk.
For your chance to win, say why you’d like to try these treats on Goldilocksbeauty.com Facebook page. Liking my FB page would be great too if you’re inclined!
Fine print – offer available to UK addresses only; offer closes midnight Sunday March 18 2012. Winners will be contacted via Facebook message and asked for postal address. If no reply within 48 hours, goldilocksbeauty.com will move onto another name.

It's all about sun protection now
A big apology for the silence over the last few months – not that you were hanging on my every word, I’d never assume that, but I’ve been busy immigrating. We landed in Sydney six weeks ago and are just about surfacing into ‘normal’ life. The whole job is no mean feat with two small children (5 & 2). We have yet to even encounter boxes as we are still without our worldly belongings and surviving with loaned essentials from friends and family.
We are all encountering new beauty challenges with the change of season and climate. Personally , I’ve reverted to my au natural curly hair, which is yet to fully recover it’s curliness after two pregnancies (however both my daughter and son have lovely curly hair and it looks cuter on them anyway). I’m now sporting frizz on a daily basis and trying to sort that out. DD is as fair as they come so I’m plastering her with SPF 30 daily and her new school hat’s brim is shoulder width so hopefully we’ll avoid cheek sunburn again (you can imagine my horror). DS has had a hair chop – his curls were gorgeous but he could hardly see and he was so hot it went into ringlets. DH just needs to be reminded to wear sunscreen more often…. (and he’s an Aussie).
I’m going to keep you up to date with all the great new products coming out in the UK plus any Sydney-side goodies I find. It’s nice to be back, now with a new tech set up so hopefully it will all happen far more frequently and fluidly!
Thanks for staying in touch!
Janine

Beat winter-fluffy or lank hair (depending on which way your hair type goes in dry, cold weather) and cut your drying time. Beyond a bargain (about 53.5% off actually), this dryer has superpowers – 2200W, ionic technology which aids frizz and static control, a pro-style long life motor for serious hairdrying plus the usual features you’d need – three heat settings, two speeds, a nozzle and cold shot for sealing your sleek blowdry.

Small in size, big on fundaising
You’ll have seen many breast cancer fundraising beauty products this month, but I wanted to share this with you as it’s so super cute. Clinique’s Great Lips, Great Cause Key Ring, £15 – three pink shades of my fave Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 lipgloss, complete with a heart-shaped mirror for checking application on the run. Love the dinky size too (why is miniature makeup always so appealing?), and of course the fact that £2 from the sale of each key ring raises money for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Available at Boots and Clinique counters (not online, sorry) Call 870 034 2566 for stockists.

Imagine the soothing delights of a bath infused with to-die-for Aromatherapy Associates bath and shower oil, on a much larger scale – spa sized in fact. Finally, one of the most respected aromatherapy brands has its own home – a just opened boutique and treatment rooms.

Looks lovely, smells even better
Upstairs, sniff and sigh your way around the gorgeous smelling oils and lotions. Look out for the multi-award winning Deep Relax Bath & Shower Oil (£37 for 55ml) – or for zonked out mums, search out Support Equilibrium Bath & Shower Oil (£37 for 55ml) – it’s like an emotional helping hand. BTW, a little goes a long way, especially if, like me you eek out a bottle to make it last as long as possible.

These large bottles of oil must guarantee floating out of your treatment
Downstairs, try the classic Essential Rose Facial (£90/60mins), Ultimate Rose Pregnancy Massage (£90/60mins) or Ultimate Rose Post Pregnancy Skin Nourisher (£90/60mins). I had the pregnancy massage, oh, five years ago now, and it was lovely – a good massage (you lay on your side on the bed, so no special cushions or tummy holes here) complimented with the beautiful rose body products. Back then I tried out the treatment for a magazine and was subjected to a treatment room in a gym – you can imagine I looked a little out of place there so I’m pleased to see the relaxed, stylish rooms now available.

Pregnanacy & Birth magazine
I wrote this beauty feature for the June issue – a must-read for every mum, new or otherwise. I hope the main part of what you need to see is visible! Great tips from uber makeup artist
Caroline Barnes. Just because she was Kylie’s glitter-weilding makeup artist doesn’t mean she doesn’t know how to do wake-up makeup for mums (plus she is one).
